The Spark

Dear Reader,

Please, sit down, make yourself at home. If you have already read some of my posts, you may have deduced my authorly aspirations. Originally, this blog was meant to help keep my writer’s mind ticking over. Then, one night I came up with that most curious word you can see in the title. That was when this blog was really born, with its focus on all things quintconsequential. For those of you new to the blog, a definition may be useful:

Quintconsequentialadj. and noun

Pronounciation: /ˌkwɪntkɒnsɪˈkwɛnʃəl/

A portmanteaux of quintessential and inconsequential, describing that which at first glance appears to be of no importance, but on reflection brings about a sense of grace, perfection and complete contentment.

As well as keeping my imagination well-oiled, I also decided to use this to exercise that most underrated skill: observation. Hopefully as this develops, my quintconsequentials will become more subtle, more inspiring. Truly, it is often the littlest things which make the most profound differences in life.

In case you were wondering, I am an undergraduate physics student in the UK. Surprised? Science, though intriguing, cannot give me the sense of satisfaction achieved from writing. Naturally, I will be writing for my enjoyment. The staples of this blog will be, namely: fiction, a dash of occasional poetry and a number of quintconsequentials from everyday life. I may, however, occasionally be led astray…

I aim to update very frequently – several entries each week. Feel free to deal out some flak if you notice any laziness on my part!

If you are one of those people who likes to start from the beginning, click here. Now, I must bid you adieu, but feel free to wander my meanderings at your own pace. By all means, comment and share this site. If nothing else, just remember to keep a lookout for the quintconsequentials of life.

Because sometimes, it’s the little things that make life perfect.

A note to the reader:

Please treat this delightful word as you would like to be treated.

The Post Office:

'Quintconsequential' is a word of my own invention, despite the definition in the style of the Oxford English Dictionary featured on the site. By all means, use it, whisper it, shout it from the rooftops. But please, remember that you heard it here first!
